Innovative Career

I recently spoke at my old Highschool about having an innovative career, and what it takes to create your own.

Clarity is key to creating the life and career of your dreams. But when people here the word clarity they get all stressed out, as if they are supposed to know something and they don’t.

Clarity doesn’t have to be so complicated.

Here are 3 Questions to help you get clear now:
1. What really inspires you?
2. What are you doing when time disappears?
3. If you could be anything you wanted what would you be?

Deciding what to do with you life, isn’t about looking at the job market and seeing what is available. It is about connecting with your spirit and creating a life that makes you smile.

There was an opportunity to speak with the whole Highschool and share my own personal story of creating my life and career as a Soul Artist and entrepreneur. Then after there was a smaller mentor session where the students could ask me questions directly. During this session, I noticed how open these kids were to looking at the world in new ways.

I shared with them that I believe the jobs they will be doing don’t even exist yet, because they will be the creators of them. I told them their real job is to take the time they need to find out what makes their spirit sing!

Other Parkside Highschool Alumni spoke at this event including a CNN anchor, a woman who trains astronauts, and I really connected with Julie Daniluk (below right) who is an entrepreneur and nutritionist. She is the owner of ‘The Big Carrot’ health food store, and the host of ‘The Healthy Gourmet’ TV Show, and she has a book on the way.

Once you know what inspires you,  it can take shape in so many ways!

Wow! That is too cool that you could go back and plant seeds of greatness in young people and inspire them to do not what makes them the most money or what gives them the most fame…but what will bring them the ultimate fulfillment and joy to their lives. Thanks for making a difference!

Laura, I love your 3 questions, esp #2. and NOW is the time for them to begin that exploration. I just had a call from my alma mater (asking for donations, of course), and had a delightful convo w/the student worker about his desires and passions. We talked for 25 minutes before we got around to the cash! That’s where time disappears for me. :-)
Thanks for sharing, with the students and with us!

So much here is so brilliant (as always), Laura! I totally agree about the importance of Clarity. In fact it is Step One in my 5-Step Life Blossoming Formula!! I remember when I was a little girl, my mom told me that she believed I’d be doing something she had never heard of, something that didn’t exist then. I think she was thinking about things like space travel, but the truth still is that the world is changing so fast and in so many ways that we simply cannot foresee; so, Grab Hold of Your Passion and FLY!!! Laura,
Your creativity never ceases to inspire me! I’m so proud of you being called to speak to your school. What a great compliment and you so deserve it! I wish I had people encouraging me to follow my passion when I was younger. How lucky they are to have you address them.

Wow, great post Laura! Where were you at my grad? What a gift you gave those students! The word that comes to the forefront is ‘freedom’.

The administrators at your high school are so brilliant to invite you to come speak to their students! I was thinking about the kind of people that came to speak to my school for career day, and it usually included a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, and maybe a politician! No offense to anyone in those professions (including myself), but I love the variety of interesting people who were invited to your school. I’m so grateful to be living in a time when we can create our own paths and careers that express who we really are. I hope those kids really heard you and were inspired! You are such a gift to all of us!

I KNOW that you planted some seeds at that event that will take root and surprise the whole world! Those students were truly “gifted” to have such a a creative genius as a role model.

What an amazing gift to be able to give teenagers who will soon be stepping out into the world. Too many of us muddle through our days without knowing where we really want to go, and I can’t think of a more important subject to be teaching the younger generation these days. Kudos to you!

Wow Laura, how fun to revisit your old high school and share! I remember career day back in 1994 and it wasn’t as exciting as this:) (We had someone come in who was a mortician, now that I think about it…)

    Hi Laura,

It is so great that you had the opportunity to share with these high school students. Receiving this message at an early age is so important.

    Thanks for sharing!

Every time someone is failing at business it comes in large part from lack of clarity. I’ve seen that over and over again in my years of working with people. Great video, and great article, too. And by the way I LOVE the logo for your Shaman’s Palette.

That’s awesome Laura! I wish I heard speakers like you when I was in high school. I graduated Class of ’94 too but doubt I would have been able to remember where my locker was!

    Thanks for all you do!

Laura – Another wonderful post! I too really resonated with Q2 and am totally stealing it (is it stealing if I attribute to my brilliant mastermind partner Laura?)!

We are going through a HUGE, ENORMOUS, SEISMIC shift in how people – especially young people – view the world, success and what really matters. To be blunt, the old bullshit ways of thinking, acting and doing are being swept away by a far more conscious, collaborative and cooperative approach.

The “Old Guard” will not go quietly into the night, but passionate entrepreneurs are destined to rule the future (nicely, of course)…

    Best,

    Phil

So True Laura — “the jobs they will be doing don’t even exist yet, because they will be the creators of them” .. i love this line — its the beginning of shifting us all into a whole new paradigm.

Thank you for shining your bright light for these students and rippling out into our homes and to the youth in my life and beyond.

    love, Karen.
